Coffee Bar Chats

We are excited to launch the first on-line, Post-grad Coffee Bar Chats in October 2021. This initiative provides post-grads with a safe space to share and discuss their day to day challenges, and together find new and more effective ways to address these challenges.

Bridging the Gap

We understand that post-graduates often fall through the cracks in terms of support, as most South African universities focus their support efforts on undergrads. There is little awareness of the huge jump from structured, undergrad learning to the largely autonomous, self-directed and self-motivated life of a post-grad. Subsequently there is limited support to facilitate bridging this gap.

Coaching and mentoring is an ideal approach to bridge this gap, and equip post-grads with the life-skill to “do” life successfully in this new phase with its unique challenges. However, not all post-grads can afford individual coaching, OR may not be brave enough to ask their supervisors to support such a growth opportunity.

An affordable alternative

This is where our Coffee Bar Chats offer a great, low cost opportunity for post-grads to grow. The group coaching process allows them to identify blind spots, learn from others, share their own insights, gain confidence and flourish as a post-grad.

The Coffee Bar Chat is an informal, yet structure and safe group space where a group coaching approach is used to help post-grads explore and identify solutions for their various challenges. This is a unique initiative and we do foresee that the way we intend to facilitate these sessions may change over time as we all learn what the preferences and needs are.  But for now we are ready to host our first four sessions.

Post grads from anywhere in the world may attend the Chats (as long as they are fluent in English) and may join as many Chats as they want. You will require good internet connectivity, a quiet space and about 1G data to make this work for you.

Maximum number of participants per session: 10

We reserve the right to cancel chats that have less than 5 participants. Should this happen we will be in contact with all the registered participants to discuss their options, well ahead of time.
